The DOT Drug Test
The US DOT requires all employees covered by Part 40 take a DOT Drug Test when applying for a Safety Sensitive position (pre-employment) or when randomly selected from a DOT regulated consortium. Other times in which a DOT Drug Test may be required is when a supervisor has Reasonable Suspicion of illegal drug use, or when a Post-Accident Test is required in accordance with Part 40. The US Department of Transportation requires a drug test in accordance with the Ombius Transportation employee act of 1991 which was enacted by Congress due to several serious transportation accidents. The Act required DOT agencies to implement drug testing of all safety-sensitive transportation employees including trucking, aviation, school bus drivers, van operators, railroads, mass transit, and pipeline industries. The requirement to conduct alcohol testing was also implemented in 1994. The US Coast Guard has adopted DOT Drug and Alcohol Testing requirements as stated in Part 40.

SAMSHA Certified Laboratory And Medical Officer Review (MRO)
The Department of Transportation (DOT) requires that all DOT drug tests be analyzed and screened by a SAMSHA Certified Laboratory and all results must be reviewed and verified by a certified Medical Review Officer (licensed physician). All DOT Consortium drug tests are analyzed by our SAMSHA Certified Laboratories and verified by our in-house MRO.
Medical and Recreational Marijuana use prohibited.
The US Department of Transportation(DOT) prohibits the use of marijuana for recreational purposes or medically authorized use. regardless of whether a DOT covered employee works or resides in a state which permits recreational or medical marijuana use. The DOT will not permit such use by a safety-sensitive employee. Marijuana is still listed as a schedule 1 drug under federal law, and therefore medical review officers will not reverse a positive result to negative even if the donor has been prescribed marijuana for medical use.
